Which yoga should I choose between Hattayoga and Lazayoga?
Yoga is one of the meditation methods that began in ancient India. The Sanskrit word 'yoga' has a variety of meanings, such as 'unity, means, means, etc. The yoga sutra defines it as "to stop the action of the mind and achieve the unity of the mind." In this sense, the original purpose of yoga is meditation.
Let's take a look at the Rajayoga established by Patanjali's Yoga Sutra?
Rajayoga is one of the four ancient yoga (Bacti Yoga, Znana Yoga, Karma, Yoga, and Raja Yoga). Raja means "best or king" in Sanskrit. The king of yoga is Rajayoga. You can see the meaning of yoga when you look at it as a meditation method.
In the performance stage of meditation, it means reaching the highest "samadhi," that is, "the quietness, the annihilation, the high concentration of mind in the wake, the very employment of Sammae-Indian yoga, Buddhism, etc." In other words, Raja Yoga is the highest level that can be reached in yoga practice.
The school of yoga created by Patanjali uses "Yoga Sutra" as its main scripture and practices Raja Yoga. In the sense of yoga, which started as one of the ways of meditation, Raja Yoga is the closest to the meditation yoga that I'm doing right now.
However, as yoga turned into a form of exercise, the meaning of meditation disappeared a lot. Hata Yoga is the most popular yoga in the U.S. and Korea. Most of the yoga in the United States is Hata yoga, and 80% of the yoga types that can be learned in Korea are Hata Yoga, too.
It was created by Yogi Swatmarana in India who wrote Hata Yoga Pridipica. Hata Yoga is also a training course to go to 'Sammae', which is the final goal of meditation. But the process is a little different. Hatta Yoga focused more on moving the body. Considering yoga in Korea, there is a tendency to perceive it as training with the goal of "completing one yoga move" rather than "mental training." Of course, in the process, the original meaning of yoga, "mental training," will also be naturally carried out.
There are many other types of yoga. Karma Yoga is based on the teachings of Bhagavad Gita, the Hindi Bible. Emphasize the need to perform with an altruistic mind to achieve liberation or to win the love of God (Bacti).
A similar thing is Bacti Yoga. It's also called Batik in Hindu terms. Batique yoga is said to be the easiest of the four paths to nirvana. It is called bacti yoga to achieve the level of unity between God and man through the "dedication to God."
Znana Yoga is based on the fact that human suffering began with ignorance. Znana, which means knowledge, means wisdom that comes from intuitive perception. Through this philosophical knowledge and contemplation, the purpose is to discover and embody the true self with wisdom through performance.
There are so many different types of yoga, right? If you vaguely thought, "I want to try yoga once." I think it would be good to choose this standard. If you want to achieve a sense of accomplishment by succeeding in various yoga movements one by one, I recommend Hata Yoga. I'm sure most of the yoga you can access is Hata Yoga.
If you want to focus on meditation rather than moving your body, I recommend the meditation yoga, the lasayoga I'm doing. I started meditation yoga 10 years ago. His body was so stiff that I couldn't even say it. For 10 years, it's only been solved to the average person. For a long time, my hardened body has not warmed up yet due to alcohol and cigarettes. We're still working on it.
But most of all, my mind is very stable. I stopped smoking cigarettes that I had smoked for more than 10 years after meditation began. I've almost stopped drinking. Should I say that I am able to manage my negative emotions such as anger and anger that were accumulating without realizing it?
I hope today's posting helped those who are new to yoga!
